The Crowbar and Kitchen - Raising the CUlinary Bar in Orange County

It’s rare that I admit I’m wrong when it comes to food. . . but, I have to admit I’ve been severely remiss to discredit the whole gastro-pub craze. The Crow Bar in Newport Beach is proof that there is merit to one of the latest food frenzies. And, I’m not talking about “oh, cool bar, 30 beers on tap, and a few Kobe beef sliders” hell, even Molly Malone’s in Santa Monica can cough up grub like that. I didn’t know that Orange County was capable of serving up anything other than a chain restaurant…See More

The Libraru Alehoue - Not Your Average Alehouse

The Library Alehouse on Main Street in Santa Monica is an institution of sorts. Sure, you’ve all been there but, there are a few things you didn’t know about the Alehouse. This is not your average Alehouse. If I dare say, I’d call it a modern day “green” Alehouse. What you will find here is good beer and good food, delivered to you via environmentally friendly, green practices. We’re not talking hit you over the head with patchouli oil and a pair of Birkenstocks, but a liberal approach to some…See More

Metblogs Meetup: Westside Edition! at Intelligentsia

September 6, 2009 from 4pm to 6pm
In our many years of blogging about this city we’ve had plenty of public gatherings where we’ve forced writers and readers to occupy the same physical space and have very little blood loss to blame on it. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that actually some of these events have been “fun.” The one thing they have all had in common though, is they have been central or east side and definitely nothing further west than the 405. Well that all changes this weekend when we have the first ever…See More

Flake, Venice - It's Not Just for Breakfast!

When I first moved to Venice, in the uber chic NoRo (North of Rose) area, my only coffee option was Ground Works. I love Groundwork Coffee and all but, it was 2 blocks too far for my IMMEDIATE need of coffee in the morning! I anxiously awaited for Flake Venice to open. . . and when they did, they did not disappoint.

First and foremost, Flake is not just a cereal bar as the name would suggest. I personally have never even had cereal there as I’m rather keen on a certain salad. You’ll… Continue

A Pork Event

Last Sunday I had the fine pleasure of attending Coffee Bar and 4505 Meats Pig Out Party, a live butcher demo and pig roast. And while there is an obvious knee jerk reaction to such an event at this time, I refuse to even acknowledge some pandemic fear because my love of pork runs thick and deep. A fellow swine lover, Sigmund Naah discovered this event on tablehopper earlier in the week and secured a reservation for five to this much sought after event. For $35 guest’s were treated to live… Continue
