oh the weather outside is frightful!

It was 31 degrees and snowing a few weekends ago and in Texas that means three things:1) It's too cold to go outside,2) We wear excessive amounts of winter apparel and3) We now have a valid excuse to light the fireplace. So after fulfilling those necessities, the whole family went outside to take pictures and text friends about the "blizzard". What made this snowstorm better than the others was that it fell on Christmas Eve- giving Dallas its first white Christmas since 1926. Pretty cool.Last…See More

seared tuna

When it comes to fish, tuna tops my list. Preferably sushi-grade so I can eat it ALMOST completely raw. I don’t eat much beef and whenever I got to steakhouses this is what I look for, but I’d never cooked it myself. Fish is still somewhat of a mystery to me. But I figured I’d try. Rather than ruin a $20 piece of meat trying to concoct my own recipe I fell back on Tyler Florence’s version (I love everything he makes).Like I said, I’m a sucker for raw tuna so I seared it for probably less than a…See More

tacky sweaters & tasty brisket

The season just wouldn’t feel right without a tacky Christmas party – who doesn’t enjoy going out in public in their mom’s homely knitted masterpiece? I can’t complain, I’m warm and comfortable and not to mention the shoulder pads really accentuate my figure.Either way, there was a purpose for dressing like it was 1984 – the Kris Kringle Krawl. Again, I’m going to back track to my Eurotrip. When we were in Rome we went on an incredible pub crawl (Spanish Steps Pub Crawl, do it if you’re ever…See More

remembering ireland

It’s been a while since I last posted anything, but in the light of the holiday season and exorbitant amounts of good food, it’s time to pick things back up. I’ve been pretty busy and haven’t done cooked much or been able to try any new restaurants. I finally moved out of my parents’ house and settled enough to start cooking.

Yeah, I realize I live in Texas, but believe me it does get cold here. Nothing better to warm you up than a good soup or stew! Bear with me as I back track a few… Continue
